A place for those who like to read, write, or share poetry. Original poetry, ones you like, inspirational, funny, serious...whatever. Anything poetry goes.

Keep in mind, original works take some guts to put out there, even on an anonymous forum. So kudos in advance to anyone who does. And please respect the authors of original works by asking before sharing.

    Mistakes
    by Kitsune

Do you ever put real words to thought,
letting it flow from pen to paper

or maybe you don't use a pen at all,
but instead a pencil with an eraser

or maybe you use your computer keyboard,
    typing the words on screen

and if you happen to make a mistake,
    you use the backspace key

me, I like to use a pen
and leave my errors in their glory

I'll scratch them out, and then correct them
but they're still part of the story

I'll see them there, and it reminds me,
    to not do it again

but if I do, I'll scratch it out too,
and keep on moving the pen

so life is like a pen, I think
    mistakes should not be hidden

fix them fast, but then move on,
to the next line that hasn't been written

    Undertones of Over Thought
    by Kitsune

    the loneliest of hour,
    in the darkest of night
    it carries me away,
    my minds futile plight

    my deepest of thoughts,
    and drawn out conjecture
    that leads to nowhere
    of any great measure

    the mind often wanders,
    makes assumptions and guesses
    turns what was clear thought,
    into nothing but messes

    should I think that
    or does it mean this,
going over things in my mind,
    like there's something I missed

yet with these things I think,
    I come to no conclusion
I ask, is it time well spent,
if I still have no solution

but one thing I do know,
and I hold to it true
    these late conversations with myself,
well, it's been nice talking with you

    7 Cups of Tea
by Kitsune (inspired by a poem of the same name by Lu Tong)

With that first cup of tea, my thirst was no longer wanting
But I wasn't quite ready yet, the task still too daunting
Maybe if I didn't listen, or maybe didn't see
I wouldn't have to face the truth, there in front of me

Through the second cup of tea, I really tried to accept
that which I knew was missing, and the hole that it had left
never again will I see you, or talks will we share
nor little laughs at silly things, like we didn't have a care

And as I poured the third cup of tea, my frustration began to rise
I just couldn't understand, and wanted answers to my why's
Just give me a reason, someone tell me what to do
A pure and simple truth, something to hold on to

But I tried to make peace, on my fourth cup of tea
with the loneliness and anger, and just let them free
the loss of a loved one, especially one held so dear
too far away and yet, in the thoughts always near

Slowly a single tear rolled down, and fell off my cheek
landing in the empty glass that once held my fifth cup of tea
these memories far too precious, to put upon a shelf
I will keep them close to heart, tucked safe within myself

So I poured another cup, this tea is now number six
I must and I will let go, it simply is what it is
there is no going back, and I must just move on
because I am still here, and you, my friend, are gone

At last I slowly pour, my seventh cup of tea
I take in a deep breath, and let out a sigh of relief
And so I will sit, and enjoy our last cup of tea
a heart no longer heavy, and a spirit forever free

    Cry to Heaven
    by Flex

    Scattered are my people
Like the wind before the face of the sky
    Long our council fires burned
As we chose the path of our lives

    Scattered are my people
Like leaves before the breath of heaven
Long were our hunts, giving sustenance of body and soul
As our Mother provided all the needs of her children

    Scattered are my people
Like the birds before the cold snows
Long did we thrive in the bosom of our Mother
While our stories were remembered and told

    Scattered are my people
Like seeds lifted and carried in a gust
Long did we walk in the way of our fathers
As our grandfathers did before us

    Scattered are my people
Long were we favored by The Great Spirit
And our lives were full and free
Like dancing bodies rubbed with fat

    Scattered are my people
Tossed to the four corners of the world
Thinned like smoke from leaves burning in the wind
And like the ashes that remain, cold

Scattered are my people, once full of joy
But our pride was a water skin, filled with holes
And our joy withered like an untended vine
As all that mattered was stolen, or sold

    Scattered are my people
Blind now in a world we do not recognize
Our time has passed as an arrow passes through high grass
And the memories fade, knowledge is lost, customs die

Hear me, Great Father, hear your child’s cry!
We fail. Lift us and hold us, give us your light
Lead us in our ancestor’s knowledge and way
And we will be again, and live with honor

Thanks! I have a few I've written before that I'll toss in, just to get the ball rolling.
It's always a bit nerve wracking, putting your work out there. But what the heck, it wasn't written to keep hidden, right. :=D:

You are probably right, but I have never been one to share..... I write my junk mostly for me.
Well, and for/about the ladies, lol

The one above is the only one I have ever posted to an online site.

    Kindness
    (by Amy Ludwig VanDerwater?)

When I dropped my crayon box
in rainbow slivers on the floor,
one person stopped to help me
    gather rolling crayons (sixty-four)

Crawling on our hands and knees
we picked up bits of green and blue.
When someone else spills all their crayons,
I will stop to help them too.
